Day-by-day Details

Day 1

Seward Embarkation

After your included transfer from Anchorage, we welcome you to Seward, an historic gateway to Alaska’s coastal treasures. After a safety briefing, enjoy drinks and dinner as the vessel sets sail around 9:00 PM. We’ll be taking mostly overnight crossings during this journey to allow for maximize daylight for exploration and navigating open water while guests are in their guest rooms.

Day 2

Driftwood Bay State Marine Park

Wake up in the sheltered Driftwood Bay State Marine Park. Explore the rich coastal landscape with beach walks and guided tours through muskeg meadows. For those eager to get on the water, Kayak 101 will be available to give you some tips and tricks for navigating these waters. This area offers fantastic wildlife sightings, including whales and sea lions.

Day 3

Montague Island or Hinchinbrook Island Exploration

Today's destination is flexible between Montague Island and Hinchinbrook Island, allowing us to adjust based on weather and vessel traffic. Montague Island’s Zaikof Bay is a great spot for spotting brown bears, while Hinchinbrook offers access to view the historic Cape Hinchinbrook Lighthouse. Guests can enjoy beachcombing, kayaking, or simply taking in the stunning coastal views.

Day 4 & 5

Kayak Island

Kayak Island is a place of deep historical significance, as it was where Vitus Bering’s expedition encountered the now-extinct Steller's sea cow. Anchoring here can be challenging due to strong currents, but the payoff is worth it. We’ll focus on beachcombing near Pyramid Peak and offer skiff tours if conditions allow. To the north, alternative anchorages near the Martin Islands or Fox Island provide options in case of adverse weather, offering a chance to explore the intertidal zones and possibly hike along the abandoned tracks near the old oil town of Katalla.

Days 6 & 7

Icy Bay

Icy Bay requires an overnight crossing, but guests are rewarded with incredible glacier views and a rich marine environment. We’ll spend two days exploring the bay, including a close-up look at the Malaspina Glacier and Guyot Glacier, all set against the backdrop of Mount St. Elias in Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve. This tight bay is surrounded by several glaciers, offering opportunities for hiking, beachcombing, and glacier observation.

Day 8

Disenchantment Bay Glaciers

Disenchantment Bay presents a dynamic glacial landscape, including the impressive Hubbard Glacier, which occasionally blocks Russell Fjord. Witness the power of a glacier actively reshaping the land as you enjoy a day of exploration and glacier calving. We’ll adjust activities based on conditions to ensure safe and comfortable access.

Day 9

Yakutat Town

Yakutat is known for its vibrant fishing culture and remote charm. Guests will have the opportunity to explore the town on walking tours, meet locals, and enjoy optional activities like enjoying world-renowned fishing at an additional cost. This stop allows for a more intimate connection with Alaskan life, situated between the wild coast and dense rainforests.

Days 10 & 11

Lituya Bay

Lituya Bay is a legendary destination among mariners, known for its dramatic history, including the 1958 mega tsunami. It’s a fair-weather stop due to challenging entrance conditions, but if weather and tides align, the experience is unforgettable. Guests can explore Cenotaph Island, home to black-legged kittiwake colonies and sea lion haul-outs. Enjoy hiking and take in the breathtaking views of the Fairweather Mountain Range. If needed we have alternative options like Graves or Torch Bay, known for their calm waters and stunning scenery.

Day 12

George Island

Step ashore on George Island, home to a World War I-era cannon brought here during World War II. This remote spot offers a blend of history and nature, perfect for a final stretch of exploration before heading toward Juneau. Guests may also explore nearby areas like Cape Spencer, known for its dramatic marine environment.

Day 13

Captain’s Choice/Wildlife Search

Today is all about flexibility, allowing the captain to select the best locations for wildlife viewing. This is a prime opportunity for whale watching in the Inian Islands and Icy Strait, where humpbacks and orcas are frequently sighted. The day's plan will adjust to the best conditions to ensure guests have a memorable experience.

Day 14

Juneau Disembarkation
