Sailing with Kids

Aboard an UnCruise small ship, families explore wild places, make discoveries, and learn while having fun together. This information is for children 17 and under. Family members across generations experience extraordinary, memory-making moments with one another. Each kid travels differently and only you, their parent or guardian, know your child’s specific interests and comfort zones. We want you and all of our guests to fully enjoy our style of adventure travel. The guidelines below will help ensure that all of our guests have a safe and happy experience. Let the fun begin!

Need-to-Know Information

General Travel Information & Safety

Parents/guardians must maintain guidance and responsibility of kids at all times; always be aware of your child’s location and actvities onboard and ashore.
There are no childcare services available and no kids playrooms onboard; kids should NEVER be left unattended.
Coast Guard-approved Type 1 life jackets, for emergencies only, are provided. For kayaking, you must bring a comfortable Type 2 or Type 3 life jacket for each child under 90 pounds. Guests traveling with infants under 30 lbs need to bring their own PFD to assure the safest and most comfortable fit. Most infants under 30 lbs use a type II PFD for vessel activities.
All families traveling with kids must attend the safety briefing.
No running allowed onboard; weather can make decks slippery.
Off-vessel, kids must stay with their group, and should not get ahead of their guide or be disruptive to other guests or guides.

Activities & Gear

Our guides advise and recommend activites to guests based on their interests and experience - adults and kids alike. Depending on the destination, activities may include kayaking, hiking, paddle boarding, beachcombing, wildlife viewing, and learning about the natural world from our crew.
Guides will help assess your child’s abilities and may ask for weight, height, and your child’s experience kayaking or hiking.
Children may participate in any activity suited to their ability level.
Due to the nature of our explorations, kids-only or family-only excursions are usually not feasible.
Kids need proper outdoor clothing and footwear for activities (rain gear, waterproof boots, sun hat, etc.) appropriate for the destination. Pack accordingly; these items are not available onboard.

Common Areas

The ship has crew-only areas not open to the public. The captain will announce off-limits areas during the safety briefing. Be sure your child is aware of these areas.
Common areas like the lounge or library are open 24 hours/day. Crew members may make announcements in these areas or request that they be kept quiet. Be sure your child is aware and courteous of these times/activities. Kids must be supervised by a parent or guardian when using the hot tub and exercise equipment. Certain hours are reserved for adults.

Cabins

Most cabins have two twin-size beds. Triple cabins have either a fold-out sofa or a small daybed.
Cabins have limited storage space and are not equipped with cribs or bed rails.
Private refrigerators are available in a limited number of upper category cabins. If you require refrigeration for medication or special dietary needs, please let us know at time of booking.

Dining Room

If you need specific food storage for a child, check with your Hotel Manager on arrival.
The dining room is not equipped with child-friendly dishes, glasses, or equipment such as a highchair or booster seat.
We offer a small kids menu featuring simple fare and kid-friendly staples alongside our regular menu. Our galley team is happy to accommodate reasonable dietary needs when possible - please let us know in advance.
