Company Background

The concept of UnCruise Adventures began in 1996 when American Safari Cruises was established and pioneered yacht cruising in Alaska by offering upscale, active cruises aboard small yachts. In 2008, American Safari Cruises gained a new parent company when its former CEO Dan Blanchard – who headed American Safari Cruises from 2001 through 2008 – formed InnerSea Discoveries, LLC with partner Tim Jacox and purchased American Safari Cruises. After a significant fleet expansion, the company changed its name to UnCruise Adventures in January 2013.

The executive team currently includes CEO Captain Dan Blanchard and President and COO Tim Jacox. Together they have 60-plus years of combined experience in yacht and small-ship cruising. Blanchard was formerly vice president of operations at Cruise West and a captain for Glacier Bay Lodge cruises; he has been a licensed captain since 1981. Jacox spent 20 years at Cruise West including 12 years as vice president of marine and land operations and eight years managing sales and marketing.

The current fleet consists of eight vessels directly operated by the company. In 2011, the 22-guest Safari Quest and 36-guest Safari Explorer were joined by two expedition vessels—76-guest Wilderness Discoverer and 60-guest Wilderness Adventurer. The 74-guest Wilderness Explorer and 88-guest Safari Endeavour joined the fleet in summer 2012. The 86-guest Legacy began operating for the company in 2013, along with the 66-guest Safari Voyager.

Along with its growing fleet, the company has expanded to other destinations—Mexico’s Sea of Cortés, Hawaiian Islands, coastal Washington, and Columbia & Snake Rivers. In 2016, the company began offering adventures aboard the 48-guest La Pinta, a partner vessel in the Galápagos Islands. A new itinerary exploring Costa Rica with a full transit of the Panamá Canal began in 2016 and a Pure Panamá adventure began in spring 2017. In 2018, UnCruise Adventures launched a new Rivers of Adventure itinerary aboard the Legacy, sailing between Portland, Oregon and Clarkston, Washington on the Columbia & Snake Rivers. In 2019, UnCruise expanded their Latin America operations with new itineraries in Colombia, Belize, and Guatemala aboard the 66-guest Safari Voyager.

UnCruise Adventures offers adventure cruises to remote and scenic destinations. All vessels include adventure activities such as hiking, kayaking, paddle boarding, skiff excursions, beachcombing, and whale-watching. Itineraries are flexible to maximize wildlife and adventure opportunities.

UnCruise Adventures has offices at Seattle’s historic Fishermen’s Terminal and in Juneau, Alaska.
